Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility Criteria
- Educational Qualification: A candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university or equivalent qualification.
- Age Limit: Generally, the candidate must be between 21 and 32 years of age as of August 1 of the exam year. Age relaxation is provided for reserved categories as per government norms.
- Nationality: The candidate must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal/Bhutan or Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with intentions of permanent settlement.

Exam Pattern
- Mode of Exam: The Civil Services Preliminary exam is conducted online (Computer Based Test - CBT).
- Number of Questions: Preliminary exam comprises 2 papers - General Studies Paper I and CSAT (Paper II). Each paper contains around 100 questions.
- Marking Scheme: General Studies Paper I carries 200 marks, CSAT Paper II also carries 200 marks. CSAT is qualifying in nature and requires minimum 33% marks to qualify.
- Subjects Covered: - General Studies includes Current Affairs, History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Environment, General Science. - CSAT includes Comprehension, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude.
- Exam Schedule: The Preliminary exam is usually held in June every year. The official notification is typically released in February or March.
