Common Law Admission Test

Conducted by The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) on a rotational basis among the participating National Law Universities in India.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria for CLAT

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have completed 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board or university.
  • Minimum Percentage: General category candidates must have at least 45% marks, while candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PWD categories must have at least 40% marks in the qualifying examination.
  • Age Limit: There is no age limit to apply for CLAT.
  • Nationality: Indian nationals, NRIs, and foreign nationals are eligible to apply.

Exam Pattern

CLAT Exam Pattern

  • Mode of Exam: Computer Based Test (Online)
  • Number of Questions: Usually around 150 questions.
  • Marking Scheme: +1 mark for each correct answer; no negative marking for incorrect answers (subject to change as per year)
  • Subjects Covered:
    • English Language
    • Current Affairs including General Knowledge
    • Legal Reasoning
    • Logical Reasoning
    • Quantitative Techniques (Mathematics)
  • Exam Duration: 2 hours (120 minutes)
  • Notification Release: Generally released in the month of January every year.

Application Process

  1. Visit the official website: consortiumofnlus.ac.in
  2. Register by creating a new account using valid email and mobile number.
  3. Fill in the online application form with personal and academic details.
  4. Upload scanned copies of photograph, signature, and other required documents as per specifications.
  5. Pay the application fee online through available modes (debit card, credit card, net banking, UPI).
  6. Submit the application and take a printout of the confirmation page for future reference.
  7. Note: There is no offline application process.

Admit Card

  • Admit cards are usually released 10–15 days prior to the exam date.
  • Download admit card from the official website by logging into your candidate account.
  • Carry a printed copy of the admit card to the exam center along with valid photo ID.
  • Admit card contains important details like exam center, timing, instructions etc.

Results & Cut-Offs

  • Results are declared on the official website generally within 1 month of the exam date.
  • Merit list and cut-off scores vary each year depending on number of candidates and difficulty level.
  • Cut-offs differ for various categories and universities.
