Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility Criteria for JEE Main
- Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination or equivalent from a recognized board with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational subject.
- Minimum Marks: There is no minimum percentage criteria set for JEE Main eligibility; however, admission to participating institutes may have their own criteria.
- Age Limit: There is no age limit to appear for JEE Main. Candidates can attempt the exam for three consecutive years from their qualifying examination year.
- Nationality: Indian nationals as well as foreign nationals and NRIs are eligible to appear for JEE Main.

- Mode of Exam: The exam is conducted in online computer-based test (CBT) mode.
- Number of Papers: Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech), Paper 2 (B.Arch and B.Planning).

- Paper 1 – 90 questions (Physics - 30, Chemistry - 30, Mathematics - 30)
- Paper 2 (B.Arch) – Mathematics (30 questions), Aptitude Test (50 questions), Drawing Test (2 questions)
- Paper 2 (B.Planning) – Mathematics (30 questions), Aptitude Test (50 questions), Planning Based Questions (25 questions)
- Marking Scheme: Each correct answer awards 4 marks; incorrect answers in MCQs result in a penalty of 1 mark each; no negative marking for non-MCQs or drawing test.
- Subjects Covered: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Aptitude, Drawing (as applicable per paper).
- Exam Frequency: Typically held twice a year – January and April sessions.
- Notification Release: Official notifications generally release in December for January session and in February/March for April session.
