Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria for JEE Main

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination or equivalent from a recognized board with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational subject.
  • Minimum Marks: There is no minimum percentage criteria set for JEE Main eligibility; however, admission to participating institutes may have their own criteria.
  • Age Limit: There is no age limit to appear for JEE Main. Candidates can attempt the exam for three consecutive years from their qualifying examination year.
  • Nationality: Indian nationals as well as foreign nationals and NRIs are eligible to appear for JEE Main.

  • Mode of Exam: The exam is conducted in online computer-based test (CBT) mode.
  • Number of Papers: Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech), Paper 2 (B.Arch and B.Planning).

  • Marking Scheme: Each correct answer awards 4 marks; incorrect answers in MCQs result in a penalty of 1 mark each; no negative marking for non-MCQs or drawing test.

  • Exam Frequency: Typically held twice a year – January and April sessions.
