All India Engineering Entrance Examination

Conducted by The All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) was formerly conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). However, it has been replaced by the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) since 2013.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria for All India Engineering Entrance Examination

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have completed or appearing for the 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
  • Minimum Marks: Generally, a minimum aggregate of 50% marks (45% for reserved categories) in qualifying examination is required.
  • Age Limit: Usually candidates must be born on or after October 1 of the year that makes them 17 years old at the time of admission. The upper age limit was often 25 years for general category (relaxation for reserved categories as per norms).
  • Nationality: Indian nationals. NRIs, OCIs, and foreign nationals may have separate eligibility and application procedures.

  • Mode of Exam: The exam was conducted in offline pen and paper mode.
  • Number of Questions: The question paper contained 120 questions divided equally among Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (40 questions each).
  • Marking Scheme: Each correct answer carried 4 marks, and 1 mark was deducted for each wrong answer (negative marking applied).
  • Subjects Covered: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • Exam Duration: 3 hours.
  • Exam Schedule: The exam was usually held once a year in the month of April. The official notification typically released in January-February.

Syllabus

Syllabus of All India Engineering Entrance Examination

The syllabus was based on the NCERT curriculum of class 11th and 12th for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

  • Physics:
    • Class 11 Topics: Physical world and Measurement, Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Work, Energy and Power, Motion of System of Particles and Rigid Body, Gravitation, Properties of Bulk Matter, Thermodynamics, Behaviour of Perfect Gas and Kinetic Theory, Oscillations and Waves.
    • Class 12 Topics: Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism, Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Currents, Electromagnetic Waves, Optics, Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation, Atoms and Nuclei, Electronic Devices.
  • Chemistry:
    • Class 11 Topics: Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry, Structure of Atom, Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure, States of Matter: Gases and Liquids, Thermodynamics, Equilibrium, Redox Reactions, The Hydrogen, The s-Block Element, The p-Block Element, The Organic Chemistry - Some Basic Principles and Techniques, Hydrocarbons, Environmental Chemistry.
    • Class 12 Topics: Solid State, Solutions, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Surface Chemistry, The General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Elements, The The d- and f-Block Elements, The Coordination Compounds, The Haloalkanes and Haloarenes, The Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers, The Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids, Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen, The Biomolecules, Polymers, Chemistry in Everyday Life.
  • Mathematics:
    • Class 11 Topics: Sets, Relations and Functions, Trigonometric Functions, Complex Numbers and Quadratic Equations, Linear Inequalities, Permutations and Combinations, Binomial Theorem, Sequence and Series, Straight Lines, Conic Sections, Introduction to Three-dimensional Geometry, Limits and Derivatives, Mathematical Reasoning, Statistics and Probability.
    • Class 12 Topics: Relations and Functions, Algebra, Calculus, Vectors and Three-dimensional Geometry, Linear Programming, Probability.

Application Process

  1. Visit the official website (https://jeemain.nta.nic.in/).
  2. Register by providing basic details and creating a password.
  3. Fill in the application form with personal, academic, and contact details.
  4. Upload scanned images of photograph, signature, and other required documents as per specifications.
  5. Pay the application fee online using net banking, credit/debit card, or offline through bank challan if applicable.
  6. Submit the application and take a printout for future reference.
