Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria for NEET

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects.
  • Minimum Marks Required: General category candidates must have at least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology; 40% for reserved categories.
  • Age Limit: Minimum age is 17 years. The upper age limit for general category candidates is 25 years and 30 years for reserved category candidates as per the latest guidelines.
  • Nationality: Indian nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs, and foreign nationals are eligible to apply.

  • Mode of Exam: Offline (pen and paper-based test)
  • Number of Questions: 180 multiple choice questions (MCQs)
  • Subjects Covered: Physics - 45 questions, Chemistry - 45 questions, Biology (Botany & Zoology) - 90 questions
  • Marking Scheme: +4 marks for each correct answer, -1 mark for each incorrect answer, 0 for unattempted questions
  • Exam Duration: 3 hours
  • When Conducted: Usually held annually in May, with notification released around December or January

    • Class 12: Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism, Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Currents, Electromagnetic Waves, Optics, Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation, Atoms and Nuclei, Electronic Devices
  • Chemistry:
    • Class 11: Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry, Structure of Atom, Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure, States of Matter: Gases and Liquids, Thermodynamics, Equilibrium, Redox Reactions, The Hydrogen, The Elements of Group 1 and 2, The P-Block Elements, The Organic Chemistry - Some Basic Principles and Techniques, Hydrocarbons, Environmental Chemistry
    • Class 12: Solid State, Solutions, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Surface Chemistry, The Elements of the Periodic Table, The d- and f-Block Elements, The Coordination Compounds, The Haloalkanes and Haloarenes, The Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers, The Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids, Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen, Biomolecules, Polymers, Chemistry in Everyday Life

Application Process

  1. Visit the official NEET website: https://ntaneet.nic.in
  2. Register with a valid email ID and mobile number.
  3. Fill in the application form with personal, educational and contact details.
  4. Upload scanned copies of photograph, signature, and required documents.
  5. Pay the application fee online using net banking, credit/debit card or UPI.
  6. Submit the form and take a printout for future reference.
