Applications are invited for Commercial Diving Course being conducted at Diving School, Kochi commencing 05 Mar 2012. 

The duration of the course will be of ten weeks prior to which one week of screening will be conducted.  The course will be conducted on the lines of HSE (Health and Safety Executives, UK) Part I qualification and the course is termed as IDS (Indian Diving Standard) - I.  Individuals qualifying the course will be certified to work up to a depth of 50 metres using air diving equipment.  The IDS-1 course has been recognised by International Marine Contractor’s Association (IMCA), an International Consultancy Agency on all offshore marine and diving activities.  ]]>

Vetting of Application:
The application received from the candidates will be vetted at Headquarters, Southern Naval Command, Kochi and the call up letters will be sent shortlisted candidates (after verification of all the documents from the respective education boards), who will be requested to report to Diving School, Kochi for Aptitude Test, Screening and Training.  The preference of selection of the candidates in order of priority will be as follows:-
Percentage of marks obtained in 12th class examination of Central/State Board.
Age Factor (younger candidates will be given preference and due weightage will be given for the same)

Aptitude Test and Screening:
Candidates will be required to qualify aptitude test for diving and physical fitness.  This test is to assess the candidates suitability for diving.  The candidates who qualify the aptitude test will undergo Screening comprising of Entry level Knowledge test, waterborne activity, Diving Aptitude and Physical Proficiency Test in swimming and physical fitness.  On completion of Screening, twenty candidates will be selected to undergo the course.  If the number of remaining candidates are more than the required vacancies, to select the best twenty, a merit list will be prepared based on the performance in above tests.  The decision of OIC Diving School, Kochi would be final and binding during selection.  Medical Fit candidates are advised to build up swimming standards by long distance swimming and physical fitness by long distance jogging prior to reporting for the course. Candidates are cautioned not to undertake unaided/breath hold diving for the purpose of preparing for the course.]]>

(a) Candidates passing 12th class examination of Central / State Education Board and securing 50% or more marks in matriculation are eligible.
(b) Candidates must be fluent either in Hindi or in English.

Medical Standards:
The applicants are required to attach a medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner certifying that the applicant is medically fit to undertake strenuous physical activities and is not suffering from the under-mentioned disorders:

(a) Inability of clear the ears via enustachian tubes.
(b) Perforated ear drum, chronic otitis media.
(c) Chronic sinusitis, nasal obstruction.
(d) Obesity-should not be obese.
(e) Dental caries, loss of incisor, artificial dentures.
(f) Any chronic lung disease, past or present and history of thoracic surgery, diabetes.
(g) Any functional or organic cardiovascular disease, essential hypertension, diabetes.
(h) Proven peptic ulcer, chronic diarrhoea, history of extensive abdominal surgery, evidence of hernia or tendency thereto, varicose venis or haemorrhoids unless already successfully treated.
(i) Chronic or recurrent disease of genitor urinary system.
(j) Post history of fits, psychiatric illness, repeated headaches, blackouts, severe concussion or cranial surgery.
(k) Addiction to alcohol and drugs.
(l) Stammering
(m) Skeletal or arthritic disability.
(n) Chronic skin conditions.
(p) STD and AIDS.

Male Indian citizens between 18 and 28 years of age as on 1st January 2012.
